Tweaking the Wake-On-Lan Feature for Random Student PCs that do not turn on
If you have experienced that a few of your student computers don't turn on occasionally when you execute the remote Turn On (Wake-On-Lan) feature, then the Wake-On-Lan magic packet may not be reaching to those few client machines. Please tweak the following settings to slow down the magic packet speed to make sure that the packet reaches all clients.
A. Edit the magic packet interval setting to be longer.
By default, InterCLASS sends magic packets to each computer one by one with a 10 msec interval for each computer (INTERVAL= 10). Please extend the interval time to slow it down. To do so:
Edit: under the [POWER-ON] section, [POWER-ON] INTERVAL=50 (default is 10) *This means that InterCLASS will send the magic packets to each computer with a 50 msec interval.
Save the PCS.ini file and restart the InterCLASS teacher console.
B. Edit the frequency interval settings and the cycle time.
After InterCLASS has sent the magic packets for all of the student computers once, then the program will wait 1000 msec (INTERVAL2=1000), and then restart sending packets for each student computer again. InterCLASS will repeat this cycle 3 times (TIMES=3). The INTERVAL2 and TIMES settings are hidden by default, but you can also change it manually by inputting these settings.
Edit: under the [POWER-ON] section, [POWER-ON] INTERVAL=50 (default is 10) INTERVAL2=1500 (default is 1000) TIMES=4 (default is 3) *This means that InterCLASS will send magic packets to each computer with a 50 msec interval, then wait 1500 msec for the next cycle, and repeat this 4 times.
Save the PCS.ini file and then restart the InterCLASS teacher console.
